Munchkin cat breed.
Although there are many different breeds of cats, some new and some ancient, I will inform you about a relatively new breed of cat the munchkin.
The munchkin is a cat that is mostly known for its abnormally short legs, most cats will tend to have longer legs to make climbing trees easier. Through a natural genetic mutation this breed turned out different. Most people think that because they have a mutation there will also be health issues for this breed but surprisingly the munchkin is very agile, being able to do all the tasks a “normal” cat can do such as run, jump, pounce, and play. Although the physical part for this cat is normal they have an issue with breeding, the munchkin cat should not breed with another munchkin because most of the kittens in that litter will not survive, that is not to say the munchkin can’t breed, the munchkin can create many different interesting breeds such as a lambkin, genneta, and minskin but whether or not the kittens have the munchkin gene is a 50/50 chance.
Because this is a relatively new breed of cat we are able to trace the cat back to the first munchkin found. The first munchkin was found in the U.S by Ellen kasten in 1964 in the town of Westbury New York; Ellen Kasten named the short legged cat “little one” but unfortunately little one was never pregnant and never had kittens so the munchkin was not a breed at that point. Years later another short legged cat was found again under Sandra Hochendel’s truck in 1083, Sandra Hochendel named the pregnant cat Blackberry, when Blackberry had kittens half of them had the short legged gene there for creating the munchkin breed of cat.
These cats are so cute! It's too bad that they can't breed with one another.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, but i want to know what makes them unable to breed together.
