Girl Stolen Summative.

girl stolen

Girl Stolen Summative.

In the book “Girl Stolen” the most interesting idea is that Cheyenne (the main character) begins to have feelings for Griffin (the kidnapper). It is an interesting concept for Cheyenne to have Stockholm syndrome because that means her original feelings of hate for griffin turns to feelings of compaction causing her to feel safe and secure and finding herself not wanting to say good bye to Griffin.
When griffin had first kidnapped Cheyenne (by accident) the only thing she could think of was to harm him, she was pleased when she heard that her nails had caused a wound on griffins face “good, she had hurt Griffin” every thought she had about him was filled with hate and disgust if she could gauge out his eyes at that moment, she would. Griffin on the other hand had absolutely no feelings of hate for her, even after she clawed his face; he genuinely felt guilt for kidnapping the sick girl this caused him to take the utmost care of her, treating her kindly as he tried to make the situation a little less painful for Cheyenne by protecting her from the people who didn’t care for her. This caused Cheyenne feelings of conflict; the man she hated was the nicest person she could find everyone else treated her as thought she was less than human, she found herself not wanting to be alone and hoping that Griffin, the person she originally hated, would stay with her.
After spending some time at the kidnappers house Cheyenne found that Griffin was her only chance to escape she decided to make Griffin into a ‘friend’ she would talk normally to him and have a conversation that she would have with her friends “for a second, Cheyenne forgot that she wasn’t talking to a friend like Sadie or Kenzie” she began to like Griffin trusting him to keep her safe and felt relieved when he was with her because alone she was venerable to whatever the other men tried, and they did try things, things that Griffin put a stop to the moment he came back. Griffin’s constant protection of Cheyenne gave her a feeling of security, when Griffin was with her she knew nothing would happen to her and she could feel herself creating a bound with him.
Cheyenne had finally escaped her captors with the help of Griffin, her original kidnapper, and was at home trying to forget the horrible time she had, when the phone rang and on the other end was Griffin, she was a little confused about why he was calling but she did not hang up on him even though his voice reminded her of the ordeal and she found herself shaking, when Griffin said I’ll let you go Cheyenne found herself telling him “no-wait” as she continued to have a conversation with him, something you wouldn’t normally do with your perverse kidnapper, she felt as though he truly was just a friend calling to see what’s up,. They finished their small conversation before Cheyenne had to leave but when he asked if he could call again she considered for a short time, unfortunately we never got to hear her answer but from the weird bond they had created you can almost certainly say she said “yes”
In conclusion the most the most interesting idea is that Cheyenne has Stockholm syndrome and begins to have feelings for Griffin. It is an interesting concept because that means she Is able to grow to like Griffin and build a relationship with him as he protects her and makes her feel safe in his presence. Causing her to feel conflicted when she has to finally say good bye to him.

Richard McDonald-and all of his carers.

I would have to say that Richard McDonalds talk was the best out of all the talks, he spoke loudly and clearly, his slide show was simple and easy to follow and helpful when I wanted to wright things down.
I found his job life weird and I wonder how he went from being an auto mechanic, to a cabinet maker, to a film maker, to a film critic, to a freelance writer, to a comedy writer, to a corporate writer/photographer/video director/narrator.
I can see how some of his skills translated to his other jobs like when he showed us the red green skit  he needed his auto mechanic knowledge to wright the script.
I also liked how, by showing us all of his different carers he has had in life he got his message across of how a carer doesn’t have to be just one thing it can be many different jobs.
So all in all in my opinion I would have to say that Richard McDonald’s presentation was the best out of all the presentations.

Professor-Author-Mark Morton

I liked mark Morton’s presentation because he was good at speaking and was able to effectively explain what he did as a professor and as an author.
Before watching Morton’s presentation I didn’t know that a professor had to have published work, and it kind of surprised me, I would have thought the only job a professor would have to do is teach but I can understand why they would need to have published work. When he was talking about some of the books he had created I found one of them interesting “the origin of words”  I often wonder and ask people, mostly family, were some words had originated from so now I know of a book that could tell me were some words originated from.
Over all I don’t think I would like to become a professor because they have to take years and years of school just so they can teach university students.

MidWife As A Job

After listening to our speaker and hearing all the things a midwife is in charge of I have decided that a midwife would be the Absolut worst job for me. I believe that because it was able to reach all the criteria for a job I don’t want, talking to strangers, giving people advice, dealing with children/babies, taking care of someone in pain, unsure business hours, working at different place’s, stressful situations, and having to renew skills (CPR every year or so).
Even though I like to help people, helping a woman give birth would be scary, stressful, and a little awkward not just because I don’t like kids but more to the fact that I can’t stand to see people in pain so it would be very hard for me to get over that to help the woman.
One of the things I think I would hate most about being a midwife would be the unsure hours, I hate not knowing things so not knowing when I have to go and help the woman would be very annoying like waiting for someone to call you.
The last thing that is almost equally if not more annoying to me would have to renew the CPR skill, I prefer to get a skill and keep my certification to practice that skill without having to renew it every 1 to 2 years.
There for in my opinion I believe that a midwife would be the worst job for me.

Sarah Leishman - Child Youth Worker (CYW)

Sarah Leishman is a child and youth worker (CYW), a CYW is a person who works with troubled children up to the age of 18, and she will talk to the children and their families about small nagging issues and big stressful life changing issues. Some of the issues they talk about can be special needs, mental trauma, abuse, neglect, anxiety, and eating disorders. having someone like a CYW is very helpful to children because the most important factor that gives kids resilience to cope with trauma is having someone to talk to, but a CYW is not always helpful, I used to know a girl who would lie to the CYW to make him/her think she was ok even though she was harming herself and had suicidal thoughts. Therefor even though a CYW can be very helpful to some children there are other children who will not let them help.

Amy- library manager/ interviewer.

Amy is the library manager, she is in charge of the interviews for the people who want a job at the library. Through her presentation I have been informed on some of the do’s and don’ts in an interview. Some of the things she said we should do is dress appropriately, your less likely to get a job if your dressed like a slob. Act like you’re interested in the job and that it is something you will take seriously, since their paying you they want a competent employee that won’t slack off and will do their best. Have a professional resume, don’t wright your resume like you’re sending it to a friend in a text message. Be honest but not unappealingly honest, If they ask you what your greatest weakness is don’t tell them you have a habit of being late try to make it into something that they won’t care about or something that makes you look good, for example “my greatest weakness is I’m not fluent in French”. Although those are some of the bad things you should not do there are things they will forgive you for, like if you don’t know the answer to a question they ask, it’s not great but they don’t care too much or if you take a minute to think about an answer to a question, they would rather a well thought out answer instead of something random you came up with on the spot. She also told us about the things that will be helpful to getting the job. One of the things she said is helpful is if you research the job you are applying for, that will make you seem reliable and a good candidate for the job. Another thing is that you can volunteer at the place before you apply for the job, the interviewers are always afraid to hire people they don’t know so if you volunteer they will know what kind of worker you are (so you have to do a good job as a volunteer) and they will be more likely to hire you.

Justin Kominar - Computer Programmer

The job of a computer programmer, making artificial AI's and new technology for people to use sounds like it would be enjoyable for me to do. Even though I have little to no computer skills what so ever I have many friends and family who work with things like computer programming for example my friend Chris pink is creating an AI that can learn from the conversations it has with people so it would be a skill that I could have a lot of help learning. I have always found people who work or create technology interesting because it is a hard skill to learn and even harder to be good at because it involves many different skills such as math. even though I think it would be entertaining I don’t think I’d be able to learn the skills necessary to be good at it even with the help of classes, friends, and family but the skills I would have to learn are not the only problem I have with the job, I’m not very good with working on long projects because I get bored of them and then my work becomes gradually worse but with that said I also don’t like really short projects because I’m not able  to spend the time I want or need on a project to make it satisfying to the people who want it use it. In conclusion the job or a computer programmer is a job I would like to do but not a job I would be good at so it is not a job I will try to get.

king charels-history story.

i am the king. not because i want to be but because i was chosen by god to be.ciquenith the death of my older brother and my father god has chosen to make me king. i answer to no one except god.and as king chosen by god i am able to do whatever i want. without consequence.

“i charge to king with high treason against the realm of england.”
declared oliver cromwell the man who had been fighting against the king. “king charles what say you in your defence?”
the male judge in a black a black robe asked while staring at the king with cold eyes. the courtroom had walls made out of old and chipped white stones and the table and chairs that the people sat at were made of a light oak wood. the jury sitting behind the king were silent in fact the entire courtroom was silent except for the howling of wind that came in through the old windows nearing the top of the walls. the king lifts his eyes and stares straight into the judges eyes, a smile grew on his face as he stated “i am a king chosen by god himself! what have i to be afraid of? when i die my soul will be cast on to a throne in heaven while your soul shall be sent to hell to burn for what it has done.”
“ Is that to say, my king, that you do not feel it necessary to say a plea for your life?”
the judge asked. I repeat”
said the king slouching back in his chair “what do i have to fear of death?”
“very well, my king, because you feel it not necessary to make a plea for your life i declare that the king, for the crimes contained in the charge should be carried back to the place from whence he came, and thence to the place of execution, where his head should be severed from his body.”
the judge announced banging his hammer on the oak table. the parliamentary forces under command of oliver cromwell, escorted the king back to the palace where he had spent his last two days. on the third day the king was lead to the scaffold erected at whitehall, london. it was a bitterly cold day and when the king arrived he was wearing two heavy shirts so that he would not shiver in the cold and appear to be afraid. the king turned to the crowd and began to speak, “truly i desire their liberty and freedom as much as anybody whomsoever  but i must tell you that their liberty and freedom consists in having of government, those laws, by which their life and their goods may be most their own. it is not for having shared in government , sirs that is nothing determined them a subject and a sovereign are clear different things and therefor until they do that , i mean that. you do put the people in that liberty, as i say, certainly they will never enjoy themselves sirs, it was for this that i have come here. if i would have given way to an arbitrary way, for to have all laws changed accordingly to the power of the sword i needed not to have come here, and therefore i tell you that i am the martyr of the people.” the king then turned to the executioner and said “i shall say but very short prayers and when i extend my hands you can end it.” he then called to the bishop for his hat, and as he put it on he asked the executioner who wanted him to put all his hair under his cap “ does my hair offend you?” he turned to the bishop and said “i have a good cause and a gracious god on my side.” “there is but one stage more. which, though turbulent and troublesome, yet is a very short way, it will carry you from earth to heaven and there you shall find your great joy, the prize you hasten to, a crown of glory.” the bishop proclaimed. the king responds “ i go from a corruptible to an incorruptible crown were no disturbance can be, no disturbance in the world.” the bishop shows a cold smile “ you are exchanged from a temporal to an eternal crown. a good exchange.” the king turns back to the executioner “is my  hair well?” he asks as he takes off his cloak and jeweled pendant, he delivers the pendant to the bishop and put the cloak back on again. looking upon the block he says to the executioner “ you must swing fast.” “ it is fast sir.” the executioner replies “ the block might have to be a little hier .” said the king. “it can be no higher sir.” the executioner says while shaking his head “ when i stretch out my hands like this kill me.” said the king he then said a few words to himself as he stood with eyes and hands lifted  up. he then knelt and laid his neck upon the block. the executioner tucked the kings stray hairs under his hat again. his majesty thinking he was going to strike, begged him. “stay for the sing.” the executioner looked down at him with understanding eyes “yes i will wait” after a very short pause, the king stretched out his hands, th executioner raises the sword high into the air, then swings the sword and severs the kings head from his body in one blow. ending his life.

i am the king, not because i want to be but because i was chosen by god to be, i answer to no one except god and as king chosen by god i am able to do anything i want without consequence.

Christopher Graves - International Development (Fundraiser)

The job of international development (Fundraiser) that Christopher Graves has is an amazing and respectable job. I love the fact that the job is meagrely focused on helping people in need.  A fundraiser is a job I think I might be interested in, knowing that because I’m working 9-10 hours I would be sending a child to school would make me feel good about working everyday also the fact that they follow up on the money to make sure it’s going to the children Is a great idea, but I don’t think I would like to travel to another country for my job. I would hate having to ask people for money or the fact that my job would require me to do accounting and it would kill me knowing that no matter how hard I work the organization wouldn’t be able to help all of the children. So with all these points in mind a fundraiser is a job I think I would like but it wouldn’t be my first choice.

Standardized Testing.

In my personal opinion i don't believe standardized testing is necessary.the test is so they can tell if your understanding what your learning. That, to me, is the same thing as a test we do in class or the exam we do at the end of the year. I understand that they might want to know if every one is on the same level by giving them a test that is exactly the same but how would that help any of the students? Because its not the teacher writing the test there may be things in it that the students have not been tough yet so you wouldn't be able to tell which student is doing better then the other because some students may be farther head or farther behind because of their teacher. Also i believe standardized testing should not judge how well a student is doing, because some people have difficulty writing tests you could not see how well there doing because they couldn't do as well on the test as they could on a project. There for i do not like the idea of standardized testing and think it should not decide whether or not you graduate high school.

TEDx field trip .

The TEDx talk in a word was ok.The speakers were interesting, and had different story's to tell, i liked the fact that it did not seem to matter who the speaker was or how old the speaker is as long as they had a point to make they were welcomed to the stage. although at first i was paying attention and taking in every word, it felt as though with every speaker the talks felt as though they were getting long and longer and i became less interested in the talks and just hoping the lunch, that was supposed to start 30 minutes ago, would come. i don't know if it was my attention  span or if everybody felt the talks were getting repetitive but by the time lunch ended i was ready to go home but to my dismay home was hour's away. so the TEDx started off really good but in my opinion it gradually got boring so i would give the TEDx talks a 4 out of 10.

Allison's job-community manager.

The career that Allison has as a community manager is a job I don’t think I would enjoy. Although the thought of being able to do some work at home, creating websites, and having a lot of freedom and trust sounds nice I just can’t get over the years of school you’d have to take, the really long work hours, having to help people online, using a computer all day and all the reading and writing I’d have to do. The job would in my opinion be too boring and too intense for me, I wouldn’t be able to show the dedication to the job like Allison and would most likely end up fired or not even hired to begin with.

Are people mostly good or bad-opinion piece

In my opinion I believe that most people are good and some are bad. My reasoning is that we do things for others that don’t benefit us; we have a society that does not tolerate bad deeds such as murder or abuse.
My fist reason is that we do things for others that don’t benefit us. If most humans were truly bad we wouldn’t do things that wouldn’t benefit us, but we still give money to charities we help those in need we even do small things like hold the door for the person behind you, so that proves we care about others.
My last reason is we have a society that doesn’t tolerate bad deeds such as abuse or murder, there are even jobs set up around stopping crime from occurring the jobs don’t even offer a high pay, people will just risk their lives for the sake of keeping the peace for people they don’t know.
In conclusion there are more good people then bad people because we are willing to do things that don’t benefit ourselves and that we will not tolerate crime

The late penalty for school work.

In my opinion I believe the late penalty for school work should be changed, because there’s no point in handing in work that you’re not going to get full marks on, if they care about school they will try to hand the work in on time anyway, it’s not fair that you should be penalized because you need more time.
My first reason I think the late penalty should be changed is because there’s no point in handing in work you’re not going to get full marks for it. Some people will feel “ripped off” or “cheated” by this, they will decided to just give up and not even bothering to hand in the assignment, I know sometimes I would be working on a project and if it was late I wouldn’t even bother handing it in because I’d rather get a zero saying I didn’t hand in the project then get a 50 on something I worked really hard on.
My second reason is if they really care about school they will try to get the project in on time anyway. Most people enjoy to hand their work in on time and get flustered when the dead line is approaching whether or not there is a penalty for being late, I understand that there are some people who don’t care about deadlines but I and other people do prefer to get their projects in on time.
My last reason is you shouldn’t be penalized because you need more time, sometimes you will encounter problems like you have 50 other projects, you don’t understand the assignment or maybe you just don’t have the time.  I don’t think it’s fair to lose marks over something you can’t control. There are times when I don’t have the time to finish a project but I do try my hardest to get as far as I can.
There for I believe the late penalty for projects should be removed because people feel there is no point in handing it in if you don’t get full marks for it, if you really care about school you will try to get it in on time anyway, and it’s not fair to penalize someone because they need more time.

My letter to Catherine Fife

Dear: Catherine Fife.                                                                                                            February, 26th, 2013

Before I begin I first have to think you for taking time out of your busy schedule to read this letter. I understand you probably have a lot of things that have to be taken care of so I will try to make this short.
Recently I have been researching the issue of clawbacks for the welfare system and I believe the idea of taking money off of a person’s welfare cheque dollar for dollar is flawed(1). If they get too much money taken off of their welfare cheque just because they are making money beyond a set limit will discourage them, and cause them to feel that there is no point working(2).
I believe that instead of the government making it dollar for dollar they should make it an escalating percentage so they still get to keep some of the money they are making. If they feel that they are making money that will encourage them to work harder and longer (2). The more they work the more likely it is that they will get off of welfare.  This will then save the government money and the trouble of having to send a cheque to them. Once there off of welfare they will be out in the community with a job and some money they will start to buy more things than they used to and paying taxes that will give the government more money to spend on things of other importance, they will then become part of the economy by earning money and buying things.
I hope you will take what I have said into consideration and plan on changing the welfare clawback system to make Ontario a better place to live.
Sincerely
Samantha Heinbecker

The munchkin cat

                    Munchkin cat breed.
Although there are many different breeds of cats, some new and some ancient, I will inform you about a relatively new breed of cat the munchkin.
The munchkin is a cat that is mostly known for its abnormally short legs, most cats will tend to have longer legs to make climbing trees easier. Through a natural genetic mutation this breed turned out different. Most people think that because they have a mutation there will also be health issues for this breed but surprisingly the munchkin is very agile, being able to do all the tasks a “normal” cat can do such as run, jump, pounce, and play. Although the physical part for this cat is normal they have an issue with breeding, the munchkin cat should not breed with another munchkin because most of the kittens in that litter will not survive, that is not to say the munchkin can’t breed, the munchkin can create many different interesting breeds such as a lambkin, genneta, and minskin but whether or not the kittens have the munchkin gene is a 50/50 chance.
Because this is a relatively new breed of cat we are able to trace the cat back to the first munchkin found. The first munchkin was found in the U.S by Ellen kasten in 1964 in the town of Westbury New York; Ellen Kasten named the short legged cat “little one” but unfortunately little one was never pregnant and never had kittens so the munchkin was not a breed at that point. Years later another short legged cat was found again under Sandra Hochendel’s truck in 1083, Sandra Hochendel named the pregnant cat Blackberry, when Blackberry had kittens half of them had the short legged gene there for creating the munchkin breed of cat.
