MidWife As A Job

After listening to our speaker and hearing all the things a midwife is in charge of I have decided that a midwife would be the Absolut worst job for me. I believe that because it was able to reach all the criteria for a job I don’t want, talking to strangers, giving people advice, dealing with children/babies, taking care of someone in pain, unsure business hours, working at different place’s, stressful situations, and having to renew skills (CPR every year or so).
Even though I like to help people, helping a woman give birth would be scary, stressful, and a little awkward not just because I don’t like kids but more to the fact that I can’t stand to see people in pain so it would be very hard for me to get over that to help the woman.
One of the things I think I would hate most about being a midwife would be the unsure hours, I hate not knowing things so not knowing when I have to go and help the woman would be very annoying like waiting for someone to call you.
The last thing that is almost equally if not more annoying to me would have to renew the CPR skill, I prefer to get a skill and keep my certification to practice that skill without having to renew it every 1 to 2 years.
There for in my opinion I believe that a midwife would be the worst job for me.

Sarah Leishman - Child Youth Worker (CYW)

Sarah Leishman is a child and youth worker (CYW), a CYW is a person who works with troubled children up to the age of 18, and she will talk to the children and their families about small nagging issues and big stressful life changing issues. Some of the issues they talk about can be special needs, mental trauma, abuse, neglect, anxiety, and eating disorders. having someone like a CYW is very helpful to children because the most important factor that gives kids resilience to cope with trauma is having someone to talk to, but a CYW is not always helpful, I used to know a girl who would lie to the CYW to make him/her think she was ok even though she was harming herself and had suicidal thoughts. Therefor even though a CYW can be very helpful to some children there are other children who will not let them help.

Amy- library manager/ interviewer.

Amy is the library manager, she is in charge of the interviews for the people who want a job at the library. Through her presentation I have been informed on some of the do’s and don’ts in an interview. Some of the things she said we should do is dress appropriately, your less likely to get a job if your dressed like a slob. Act like you’re interested in the job and that it is something you will take seriously, since their paying you they want a competent employee that won’t slack off and will do their best. Have a professional resume, don’t wright your resume like you’re sending it to a friend in a text message. Be honest but not unappealingly honest, If they ask you what your greatest weakness is don’t tell them you have a habit of being late try to make it into something that they won’t care about or something that makes you look good, for example “my greatest weakness is I’m not fluent in French”. Although those are some of the bad things you should not do there are things they will forgive you for, like if you don’t know the answer to a question they ask, it’s not great but they don’t care too much or if you take a minute to think about an answer to a question, they would rather a well thought out answer instead of something random you came up with on the spot. She also told us about the things that will be helpful to getting the job. One of the things she said is helpful is if you research the job you are applying for, that will make you seem reliable and a good candidate for the job. Another thing is that you can volunteer at the place before you apply for the job, the interviewers are always afraid to hire people they don’t know so if you volunteer they will know what kind of worker you are (so you have to do a good job as a volunteer) and they will be more likely to hire you.
